All Change at Muirhouse Housing Association
Farewell to Brenda
Brenda Tonner the Director of Muirhouse Housing Association (MHA) is leaving the association after working here for more than two decades. Many of you will know Brenda as she helped set up the Association originally and was its first, and to date, only Director.
Back in May 1992 when MHA was set up Van der Valk and the Darling Buds of May were hit TV shows and the association had no houses. Over the years since then MHA has built or transferred from the City of Edinburgh Council some 570 homes and become a genuine community anchor in Muirhouse.
Acting Chair, Alison Blezard, said “We will miss Brenda’s unquenchable optimism and sheer determination, but she can look back with pride at the role she has played in growing MHA. We wish her all the very best for the future.”
Brenda said “Inevitably I feel some regret about leaving MHA, however 23 years is a long time and it is time to seek new opportunities. Over the years I have worked with a great team both within the Management Committee and staff.”
Brenda will be much missed by her colleagues, members of the management committee and no doubt many tenants. We all wish her the very best.
The Board are determined that Brenda’s departure should not undermine the work of MHA and are moving swiftly to appoint an interim director to lead the organisation whilst a recruitment exercise identifies a full time, permanent replacement.
Hello to Bob McDougall
As Brenda leaves as the Director MHA gets a new Chairman in Bob McDougall. Up until earlier this year Michael Woods had been the Chairman of the Association but when he resigned a process was commenced to recruit a new Chairman. In the meanwhile Alison Blezard stepped in as Acting Chair. Alison has done a great job for the Association but will be standing down at the Board meeting on Monday 10 August and handing over to Bob.
When Bob started his housing career Dixon of Dock Green and Dad’s Army were the hit programmes! Bob recently retired after 40 yeas and brings to MHA a vast amount of experience. He has worked in a range of posts in local authorities, development corporations and housing associations. He has been the Chief Executive of two housing associations retiring after 10 years as CEO of Trust Housing.
Commenting on his new role Bob said, “I am delighted to be joining MHA at this time. Whilst the Association faces some challenges I am impressed by the commitment of my fellow Board members and the staff at Muirhouse. I am confident that together we can go forward, working with the local community to make Muirhouse an even better place where people chose to live and work.”
